We provide excellent paediatric care to children and babies as private patients, backed up with dedicated children’s services.
The children’s inpatient ward, Rose Ward, houses a playroom with qualified hospital play specialists.
In addition to normal activities, the specialists can explain to your child through play why they are in hospital and what experiences they may go through during their stay.
The specialists can also help distract children during certain procedures.
If your child needs to spend a long time with us, then the play specialists will liaise with physiotherapists and occupational therapists to plan a developmental play programme, should you wish them to do so.
The hospital school
It's important to ensure that your child maintains a sense of normality, and continues with their education while spending time in hospital.
Our hospital school, part of Chelsea Community Hospital School, can provide your child with an excellent standard of educational and developmental support. It follows the national curriculum for children's education. Our qualified teaching professionals teach core academic subjects including English, Mathematics, Science, Information Communication Technology, History and Geography.
Any child at Royal Brompton Hospital, whether patient or family member, is welcome to attend the school. The school can also support children with special educational needs.
The school rooms are situated on the same level as Rose Ward, with two fully-equipped classrooms serving primary and secondary education.
There are a number of personal computers and laptop computers, all with controlled internet access. In addition, the school is equipped with art and crafts, reading material, photographic equipment and state-of-the-art software.
Pupils can attend lessons in the classrooms if they are able to, or teachers can attend their bedside or by video conferencing facility.
