Dr John Baksi is a consultant cardiologist at Royal Brompton Hospital, where he treats private and NHS patients.
He graduated in medicine from Imperial College London in 2000 achieving honours, having obtained a first-class intercalated BSc in 1997.
In 2004, he was made a member of the Royal College of Physicians, then subsequently undertook specialist training in cardiology on the North-West London rotation between 2005 and 2013.
After gaining a PhD with the cardiovascular physiology group at the International Centre for Circulatory Health (ICCH), Dr Baksi was selected for advanced imaging fellowships within North-West London’s specialist centres.
In July 2013, Dr Baksi joined Royal Brompton Hospital as a consultant cardiologist.
Dr John Baksi specialises in cardiomyopathy (heart muscle disease) and cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging.
He is an integral member of the inherited cardiac conditions and CMR services. In this role, he consults with patients who have heart muscle disease as well as family members who may be predisposed to a familial cardiac condition. This is complemented by his expertise in CMR imaging, reporting across a comprehensive range of cardiovascular conditions.
His specialist areas of interest include:
- heart muscle diseases such as dilated and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
- cardiovascular MRI
- cardiac genetics.
Dr John Baksi’s areas of research interest are the correlation between appearances of the heart and genetics in dilated cardiomyopathy, and advancing understanding and treatment of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
During his PhD studentship, Dr Baksi utilised a technique called wave intensity analysis, to provide insight into the formation of the arterial pressure waveform.
Dr John Baksi has over 20 years' experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. He is an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London.
He has published numerous scientific papers across a wide range of topics in cardiac disease, as well as authoring book chapters.
