Grand Rounds

18th November 2021

Our hospitals host a series of expert-led virtual Grand Rounds focusing on a wide range of cardiothoracic topics.

Join Professor Mauro Giacca, based at King’s College London, who will be discussing RNAi therapeutics for cardiac repair and regeneration.

Thoracic Surgery Grand Rounds

Led by Professor Eric Lim, the Thoracic Surgery Grand Rounds expands world leading expertise in thoracic surgery to an international audience of learners.

The series of weekly virtual talks include an update from Dr Shunichi, Watanabe National Cancer Centre, discussing the strategy of lymph node dissection for lung cancer.

A Year in Cardiology 2021

Cardiology Update 21 London

Researchers fill knowledge gap in ACHD

Researchers at Royal Brompton Hospital and Imperial College London have developed the PErioperative ACHd (PEACH) score. A simple tool to determine perioperative mortality, helping to make more informed decisions for adults with congenital heart disease before surgery. Professor Konstantinos Dimopoulos explains, “Determining risk using the PEACH score will prove invaluable to colleagues and patients around the world.”

New cardiogenic shock service

Our hospitals have developed the first comprehensive cardiogenic shock service in the UK. Dr Vasileios Panoulas, Harefield consultant cardiologist and interventional lead for the programme, commented, “This lifesaving programme provides immediate availability to specialist expertise and technology to patients across the UK, improving the diagnosis and management of patients with cardiogenic shock.”

Showcasing our expertise at Arab Health 2022

22nd - 25th January

During Arab Health 2022, Professor John Pepper will showcase a simulated demonstration of the innovative ROSS-PEARS procedure for the prevention of aortic root expansion.

The simulation will provide hope to younger patients in the region needing aortic valve replacement.

Nominated for two LaingBuisson awards

We have been nominated for the LaingBuisson awards ‘Excellence in Training’ for our Education platform, and ‘Public Private Partnership’ for our pilot study, adult congenital heart disease, at Wimpole Street.

The study led by Professor Michael Gatzoulis, involved improving care for patients with congenital heart disease in partnership with NHS and private patient services at our hospitals. The first of its kind!
